Paperwren collects nothing.

Paperwren is a document viewer. This policy is short because Paperwren collects almost nothing, and what it keeps never leaves your device.

What Paperwren collects

Nothing. Paperwren does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. It has no analytics, no advertising, no trackers and no crash reporting, and it does not connect to the internet.

What stays on your device

Recent files

The names and locations of documents you open, their size and where you stopped reading, so the app can list them and resume. You can turn this off, limit it, or clear it in Settings.

Private copies of files

On Android, when you open a file from the picker or from another app, Paperwren keeps a private copy that only it can read, so the file still opens from your recents after you close the app. Each file is stored once, copies are capped at 250 MB in total (oldest removed first), and you can delete them all in Settings.

PDF passwords

Used in memory to open that file, then forgotten. They are never written anywhere.

Permissions

The Android app requests no permissions at all, including internet access. It only sees the files you open with it or share to it. Android's cloud backup is turned off for Paperwren, so its data does not travel with your backups either.

Files you open

Documents are read and displayed on your device only. Paperwren never uploads them, because it never talks to any server.

Deleting your data

Clear recents and private copies in Settings, or uninstall the app, which removes everything it stored. There is no account, so there is nothing to delete anywhere else.

Children

Paperwren collects no data from anyone, including children.

This website

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and serves its own fonts and scripts. Your browser talks only to the host serving these pages, which may keep standard server logs.

Changes

If a future version ever changes any of this, this page will be updated and the app will tell you before the change takes effect.
